About John Tiffin

John Tiffin is a futurologist in the fields of education, communication and transport. He designed and developed the first Computer Assisted Instructional Design system (CAID) and with Lalita Rajasingham originated the concepts of the virtual class, the virtual school, the virtual university and the idea of JITAITS (Just in Time Artificially Intelligent Teachers). He is currently working with Chris Kissling to establish Transport Communications as a new discipline. He is Professor Emeritus at Victoria University of Wellington where he held the Beattie Chair of Communications from 1985 to 1998.

John has served as divisional manager of research in a computer software house and consultant in the design of new instructional systems to the Organization of American States, the World Bank, the International Telecommunications Union, the Academy for Educational Development, the Centre for Educational Development Overseas and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation. He has also been a television producer, a school principal and an able bodied seaman.
